Senator Nelson Effiong abducted by gunmen

Ex-Akwa Ibom Senator Nelson Effiong who represented Akwa Ibom South Senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly has been abducted by gunmen.

The former lawmaker was picked at his lounge along Oron road Uyo by three armed men on Sunday evening.

His abductors came in a Toyota Camry shooting sporadically.

Eight other customers at the lounge where the former Senator was picked reportedly got injured during the abduction.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the abduction.

He also said the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident, assuring that the victim would soon be rescued.

“The Command has received the report about the abduction of the victim and the Commissioner of Police has immediately ordered a discreet investigation into the matter. I believe that in no distance time, he would be rescued.
