Ndigbo in APC Lagos has held congress to comply with party directive and elected Chief Anslem E.S. Njoku as the new chairman.
According to the group, the state party chairman, Mr Tunde Balogun, had given the order on September 24, 2020, in the presence of all stakeholders and party leaders in the state, mandating them to hold a congress and elect a leader who is not traditional ruler, in order to separate the two offices. traditional leader and party leader apart.
Prior to the emergence of Chief Njoku as chairman of Ndigbo APC in Lagos State, the office of executive co-ordinator of the group was held by Eze Igbo of Ikeja, Uche Dimgba.
Speaking during the congress h consituency2eld in Okota, Lagos, as the chairman of the event, member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi/Isolo constituency2 and deputy apex leader of Ndigbo, Hon. Jude Idimogu, said the development was a result of the party’s directive and all the critical stakeholders supported it.
“What we are doing here today was in line with the party’s directive. The party is right; an Eze should be apolitical, father to all politicians, irrespective of their political party. It will amount to a mockery of Igbo customs and traditions if we should continue the old way.
Uche Dimgba (Eze Igbo of Ikeja) was disqualified from the contest because ‘the position is not for traditional rulers’.
The group, in a statement, said it is sacrilegious and rape of customs and tradition, of both Igbo and Yoruba, for an Eze to lead a political party or its pressure group.
During an acceptance speech by the newly elected chairman, Njoku promised to operate an open leadership where every group within the group will have equal representation.
” I accept my selection and pledge that decisions will be taken collectively while mine is to implement.
will operate an open leadership. Nothing will be hidden.”
