The governor noted that restructuring would prevent state governments from blaming the federal of their inabilities, El-Rufai says Nigeria should be restructured to make governance conducive. He said it was time to restructure the country in a manner that will empower states with constitutional control over certain resources.
The governor explained that restructuring should allow states to have more powers over the police, oil and gas resources, minerals, among others. He called on the National Assembly committee on constitutional review to consider the 2018 recommendations of the APC committee on restructuring.
El-Rufai said: “We, therefore, have no excuse not to seize this moment and do the heavy lifting for our country and our people. It is in our hands to make the structures, laws and constitutional arrangements in our country conducive to modern governance that will ensure our nation thrives in the 21st century.
