DSS Disguised as unknown gunmen allegedly killed Sergeant, razed Police stations in Ebonyi as Governor of Ebonyi state Dave Umehi cry out.

A sergeant has been killed as gunmen attacked Ohaukwu police divisional headquarters in Ohaukwu council of Ebonyi State where Two patrol vehicles were burnt in the late Sunday night invasion.

Sources claimed the attackers also freed some suspects in detention at the station through the claim could not be independently verified.

It was gathered that the gunmen were repelled by reinforcement of riot police and Ebubeagu, a regional security outfit.

Police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, confirmed the attack, saying the hoodlums “came to Ohaukwu Divisional Headquarters to attack the men and officers on duty and they were repelled. In the process, one police officer, a sergeant paid the supreme price.

“They threw a petrol bomb into the station and unfortunately, it got one of the patrol vehicles and exhibit vehicle parked at the place.

“This is the first time we are experiencing such a thing in the local government and the non-state actors being the vigilantes and all those security outfits were of great assistance to the police. We didn’t expect any attack,” she said.

Chairman of Ohaukwu council Clement Odah said the rumour that about 35 people were killed in the incident should be disregarded.

“The policemen there, the MOPOL attached to my local government, the Area Command and the Ebubeagu combined efforts and repelled the attackers. But unfortunately, one policeman lost his life.

“I think the DCO’s office was damaged. That is the most affected part of the station in the attack,” he said.

Secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) were accused of carrying out the attacks.
