SamDaddy Anyanwu Leads Campaign Against Human Rights Abuses, As Workshop Ends In Owerri
Former Senator representing Imo East in the red chambers, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu (SamDaddy) has intensified efforts towards the promotion and protection of human rights in Nigeria.
This was revealed shortly after the conclusion of a one day workshop on advocacy and awareness campaign against hostage taken and other social vices he organized in conjunction with the National Human Rights Commission in Owerri weekend.
Senator Anyanwu’s aim of sponsoring such a crucial event was to equip the people and provide them with free legal aid whenever their rights and privileges were trampled upon by lawless individuals.
Aside from leading a team to combat all forms of humiliation against the less privileged,
Senator Anyanwu has also designed programmes to restore public peace and sanity in line with his vision to guarantee respect to human dignity for a possible egalitarian society.
Earlier in her lecture, one of the resource persons and representative of National Human Rights Commission, Mrs Uchenna Okechukwu cautioned participants not to be docile in reporting to appropriate authorities whenever their rights were abused, adding that until they begin to fight for their constitutional entitlements, the campaign against social vices would be a mirage.
She maintained that since the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) had made provisions for the citizens to operate on an equal pedestal, there was a need for all hands to be on deck to protect those rights.
Mrs Okechukwu, therefore, called on parents to warn their children to shun kidnapping, a hostage is taken, prostitution, wife battering, sexual abuse and molestation, adding that since those inimical acts were influenced by greed, idleness and laziness, there was a need for parents to engage their children meaningfully and monitor their movements against crime.
She further advised them to utilize the opportunity put in place by Senator SamDaddy Anyanwu in conjunction with the National Human Rights Commission to fight the ugly trend out of the society.
While informing participants of the provisions of free legal services to those whose rights were abused, also charged them to collaborate with security agencies by providing vital information about strange movement and unhealthy behaviours.
Speaking also, Manager of “Ochameze” properties, Mr Henry Okpere expressed joy that in as much as Senator SamDaddy Anyanwu was no longer a serving Senator, he still attracts programmes aimed at improving the living standard of his people, and appealed to him not to relent.
He said, “I have not seen a Senator like SamDaddy Anyanwu whether serving or former. I am from Edo State and we have our own Senators, but the way your son, Senator Anyanwu is eager to provide succour to you and ensures you are happy distinguishes him as the best. What he is doing today is devoid of politics, but I will frown at other individuals who will embark on frivolous empowerments when the election draws closer. He is true, the best in social empowerment”.
