African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) candidate for Anambra Nov. 6 governorship election. Akachukwu Nwankpo, unveiled the “Umunna Revolution’’ .
Akachukwu Nwankpo, adopted the “Umunna’’ governance model, he said if electeds the next Governor of Anambra state he will use the model to run a total inclusive government,
“Umunna’’ is a home-grown kindred-based cultural system popular in the southeast of the country. He explained that the “Umunna’’ model encouraged the inclusion of households in governance instead of the present system of government, where people must know someone in power to benefit from governance.
Dr Harris Chuma-Odili, Nwankpo’s Director, Media and Strategy, who spoke to the journalist during the event in Awka, said that his candidate would adopt the system for inclusiveness and wellbeing of the majority.
He said the model aimed at taking governance to the grassroots and further down to every family for equal treatment.
“About 1.6 million people have been registered for the model. The concept will also act as a panacea to address growing insecurity because the system touches every fabric of society.
“If we can reduce misery to five percent in one year through the “Umunna Revolution’’, be rest assured that crime will also be reduced to that level.
“While people say devolve power to the states or to regions, ADC in Anambra is saying devolve governance to “Umunna’’.
“We are optimistic that by the time it begins to yield positive results in Anambra, a lot more states will adopt the model,’’ he said.
Also speaking at the event, The National Chairman of ADC, Chief Ralph Nwosu, said the “Umunna’’ type of democracy would strengthen the family system and reduce the challenges of individualism.
Nwosu expressed worry over the air of insecurity surrounding the election in Anambra.
He called for a political solution between leaders of the Southeast and the Federal Government with regards to the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, he plead with Igbo leaders to speak with one voice to enable Kanu Release.
